It comes as no surprise that Westboro, Hopkinton, and Holliston have once again been named to Boston Magazines prestigious list of the best public schools in Massachusetts. These Metrowest communities are often commended for the great education they provide their students.
How Boston Magazine determined a schools value: The rankings this year were computed by statistician George Recck, director of the Math Resource Center at Babson College. As in years past, they gathered data on area schools by consulting school officials and websites, as well as the Massachusetts Department of Education.
With this information, Recck calculated mean scores for each data category and then ranked schools based on their distance from the averages. With this traditional performance ranking in hand, he also evaluated performance against tuition, producing a ranking that shows which high schools deliver the most academic bang for the buck.
Westboro came in with a ranking of #16 followed by Holliston with a ranking of #26 and Hopkinton with a ranking of #30. Other local Metrowest Schools that came in under the top 50 Schools include Ashland at #46 and Framingham at #47. For a complete list of the top ranking Massachusetts schools see Boston Magazine's best public schools 2009.
In this list you will be able to see pertinent data such as the enrollment figures, student teacher ratio, per pupal spending statistics, graduation rate, as well as the MCAS and SAT scores.
A towns schools system always plays a large part in Real Estate values. The towns with the best school systems almost always have a corresponding price tag associated with them.
In fact two of the most expensive places to live in the state are Weston and Dover. It is no coincidence that these towns are also #1 and #2 on the list for school rankings.
In addition to Boston Magazines latest list, Hopkinton made Newsweeks top 500 schools for 2009. This award included schools throughout the country.

That's good news Bill! It's great for the housing market in Westboro, Hopkinton and Holliston to make the best schools list.
Same here when the schools are rated high the value of the homes increase. Nice to have so many in your area.
Bill - Parents, teachers, the school board and the community each have a role in making sure quality education is an integral part of a child's upbringing. Clearly, the residents of Westboro, Hopkinton, and Holliston grasp this concept.
Bill - Great info regarding schools and congrats to these areas ! That certainly bodes well for real estate in those school districts as well !
Bill-Great info indeed, I was glad to see that Westwood came in at #15, so glad that we have chosen Westwood for my children's education.

Thanks everyone for your comments on these Metrowest schools making Boston Magazines list. As you well know a towns school system has a direct bearing on Real Estate values. Hopkinton, Westboro, and Holliston are some of the better towns in the area. The schools are part of the equation that makes these towns attractive.
Hello Bill, the old adage that "it takes a community to raise a child" still seems to be true. We agree with you that there is a strong correlation between a community's home values and the vibrancy of their schools. Great going! John
Bill, it is great to have top ranked schools in your area and blogging the details of such allows locals and folks from outside the region to get educated about the best places to settle. Great promotion on your part! Reinforcing that YOU are the local expert...
Bill - schools and parks and recreations. Both have a tremendous draw for an area. Glad to hear Metrowest schools continue to rank so high. Again, they are lucky to have an excellent Metrowest MA Realtor® like you representing them!
From what I know of your area, you have one of the best school systems in the country and have been in that category for a very long time. Kudos to the parents for their involvement and the support of the schools.

Bill it would make sense that an area with great houses like you have been posting would also have a good school system to go with it.
Bill - Great school rankings definitely have a huge bearing on the values of real estate. It's a question that comes up very often with relocating buyers. Great to see that your area has such wonderful school systems. It can only help to boost the sales of existing homes in those areas.
Bill - I love your area, everything seem to rank very high. Congratulations to the students and teachers, without their hard work such an honor would not have been attained.
Great information Bill for consumers looking to relocate to your area. Education is a primary concern for all parents moving into a school district.
great to hear positive news about a school system
One of the great things about working in the Metrowest area outside of Boston is that many of the communities have terrific school systems. Massachusetts is well know for providing a good education. Hopkinton, Westboro, and Holliston are in the upper echelon.
As a fellow Massachusetts real estate agent, this Boston Magazine ranking of schools is always great to review. Ranking schools is difficult because every parent may have different needs and goals for their kids. Boston Magazine presents it well and gives parents a tool to evaluate communities. We work in a great MA community with strong schools and other benefits, so glad that this article highlights that fact. Good posting. Ed Daniels - fellow Remax Executive Realtor.
Good public service, Bill!
Bill, this is a great post to help families moving into the area. Great relocation information!
